Answer to the question: Is the original attorney who wrote a trust involved afterward?

I thought I’d post this question from Hoops44444 since a lot of people seem to be asking it lately:

I’m part of a trust and the trustee’s attorney has sent us a letter. The original attorney who wrote the trust has also been in contact with us too. Is it normal for the original attorney who wrote the trust to be involved at this time? If not, why do you think that he is involved at this point?

Answer: You need to ask. Ask each attorney to explain what their role is and whether there is any conflict. The last thing you want is for two attorneys to be doing the same thing and charging for it. Talk to the other trust beneficiaries about this if there are others. The trust language may actually require two attorneys to do separate things or for one to check up on the other. Read over the trust to see if that is the case.
